Why scientists need poetry

Here are a few limericks illuminating why scientists need poetry.

Make this poem with alchemy
Make this poem artificially.
But when it is time,
For rhythm and rhyme,
The scientist wrote so woefully.

            For he couldn’t understand why
He though he could write, a wise guy.
            Didn’t understand
            His work a wasteland
            “Think poetry!” didn’t comply.

Sir, if you think outside the box
            You’re work will be unorthodox
That’s what you have to do
            To be noticed too
They will notice your study of hawks

Therefore, the scientist studied
to smoothly compose like honey.
A bright idea,
He said eureka,
Published his paper, big money.

  1. I appreciate your impulse to go Limerick on this problem. The plot of your poem sequence is satisfying. The rhythm of the Limerick form is a bit tricky, though, and you still have some work to do before you perfect it, but good effort!
